ACCESOS RÁPIDOS
ACEPOOL is our tile brand for indoor and outdoor pools, sports pools, wellbeing facilities and spas. Thanks to our passion for detail and our exclusive range of special tile pieces, we have products able to fit in with all possible preferences and to meet the technical needs of each and every project.
EDGING SYSTEMS
When our porcelain or clinker tiles are used to line, edge and surround the whole of a pool, they guarantee full resistance to both the chemicals or natural agents used to treat the water and to the cleaning products and cleaning methods used there. All our porcelain and clinker tiles can be used indoors and out, where they fulfil all the necessary requirements of relevant standards. They also bring warmth and comfort to pool and spa facilities and their surrounding areas.
ACEPOOL manufactures a wide range of coping systems for overflow and non-overflow pools, in addition to field tiles and special tiles pieces so as to ensure pools able to meet all the above guarantees. Its systems also offer broad design potential, allowing for the creation of one-of-a-kind pools, whatever the style or source of inspiration.
Overflow coping systems are suitable for pools with perimeter overflow channels. Made of extruded porcelain or clinker tiles, they can either be laid on top of precast concrete gutters or else directly round the edge of the pool. Their main advantages are:
- Easy installation, simplifying the process to the full from the moment the inside of the pool is concreted or gunited. All that it requires is a flat substrate;
- A reduction in installation times and materials;
- Better-quality finishes
The overflow coping tiles are laid on top of precast concrete gutters, where they fulfil a triple function:
- Structural support by providing with the necessary sloping edge for overflow pools;
- Cladding because this is the top covering round the pool;
- Safety, thanks to the tiles’ non-slip grip and role in marking the edge of the pool with their darker colour and groove, which can also be used as a hand grip.
TYPES OF OVERFLOW COPING SYSTEMS
B-33 SYSTEM
|
GA-SPA SYSTEM |
FINNISH SYSTEM |
A specially adapted system also suitable for pools not for sports use, made up of overflow coping tiles which can accommodate a rigid or flexible ceramic grating. The coping tiles can be laid directly on the concrete edge of the pool or on top of B-33 supporting precast concrete gutters. | A system for sports pools, made up of porcelain tiles that act as both a coping tile and support for a grating. This system can accommodate gratings in two standard widths (245 and 195 mm wide) without having to cut or adapt the tiles. The tiles can be laid directly on the concrete edge of the pool and also used to line the overflow channel or they can be laid on top of precast concrete gutters (GA-SPA). | A system made up of coping tiles that also act as a support for a grating. The tiles can be laid directly onto the concrete edge of the pool and also used to line the overflow channel or they can be laid on top of precast concrete gutters (GA-SPA-U). The tiles can accommodate gratings in two standard widths (245 and 195 mm wide). |
Non-overflow coping systems are ideal for pools that do not need an overflow channel due to their size or characteristics. These pools can have straight sides or more conventional rounded ones. With this system, the design of the pool and its poolside areas can be maintained while also ensuring safe edging. The coping system and poolside area can incorporate ceramic gratings in the same finish to drain away surface water and prevent it from running into the pool.
Whichever coping system is used, ACEPOOL’s systems offer the assurance of functionality, durability, safety, quality and design appeal.
SWIMMING POOL LAYING RECOMMENDATIONS
All the components involved in tiling a pool - the substrate, adhesive, tiles, and grouts - must be properly handled, made or prepared, using appropriate materials.
To lay porcelain tiles, use a cement-based adhesive, following the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions.
GRES ARAGÓN recommends following the criteria established by the UNE 138002: 2017 standard. General rules for the execution of ceramic tiles with adhesion to guarantee the quality, durability, and technical and aesthetic performance of our ceramic products.
THE SUBSTRATE (the basin & surround):
-
A stable, resistant substrate is fundamental in order to guarantee good end results. A mortar classed at least M-80 (with a compressive strength of 80 kg/cm2) should be used to make it. It should have a tensile strength of up to 1 N/mm2.
-
The basin must be waterproofed, using cement-based primers or by adding a specific additive to the mix. The tiles and grouted tile joints do not, in themselves, guarantee a waterproof finish.
-
Expansion joints must be inserted to absorb movements caused by changes in temperature.
-
Once the basin has been made, leave it for at least 28 days for the concrete to cure and for any shrinkage to take place.
-
A good surface finish is essential. It should be clean, dry, level and even. Walls of pools are usually screeded.
THE ADHESIVE:
-
Only type C2 TE cement-based adhesives should be used, suitable for laying porcelain tiles with a very low water absorption rate. The adhesive should be prepared and applied as per the manufacturer’s instructions, following these stages:
-
Layout planning. Starting out with two perpendicular lines, plan the layout of the tiles, following these rules:
-
– Mark out a reference grid, with a one-metre space between each line. (fig. 1)
-
– Leave a 6 mm gap between the tiles (the tile joint).
-
– First position the corner coping tiles to determine the overflow level, followed by the tiles along the top edge of the pool. (figs. 2 and 3)
– First plan the layout of the tiles along the vertical edges, followed by the horizontal ones. (fig. 4)
– The walls should be tiled from top to bottom, laying the cut tiles along the bottom. The lanes and grid will serve as a reference. Lastly, continue with the bottom of the pool. (figs. 5 and 6)
– Insert expansion joints every 4 metres, so that the maximum area covered by a continuous stretch of tiles is 16 m2. These expansion joints should coincide with those of the basin.
-
-
Laying the tiles: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding the preparation of the adhesive, its working time and application temperature
-
– Spread the mortar over an area of less than 1 sqm so that it does not dry before required. Then comb it with a 6 to 10 mm notched trowel.
-
– By also spreading it over the underside of the tile, the bonding strength will be increased by over 30%.
-
– Move the tile slightly and press it down to ensure full contact with the base.
- – Level the tiles and remove any surplus adhesive, leaving the tile joints empty and clean.
GROUTING:
Specific materials can be found for the type of joint in question. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions in each case.
-
Wait for 48 hours before grouting the tiles. Do not tread on them during this time.
-
First grout the tile joints, using a CG2 type waterproof grout. Epoxy grouts can be cleaned with tougher cleaning products.
-
Use a rubber trowel to apply the grout, filling the joints diagonally.
-
Clean the joints before the grout hardens, using cement remover. The setting time will depend on the specific product.
-
Lastly, fill the expansion joints, using waterproof elastic polyurethane or polysulfide sealants.
-
Leave the whole pool to dry for at least 21 days before filling it.
FINAL CLEANUP
After laying the flooring, any surplus grout and general dirt must be properly cleaned up. The final cleanup should be done when the grouting material has hardened, without allowing too much time to elapse in case the surplus remains stick to the floor and complicate the cleaning process. For these operations, a slightly acidic detergent, such as Fila Deterdek, should be used which does not give off any toxic fumes, damage the tile joints or constitute a hazard for users. Test the detergent first to make sure that it does not affect the joints or ceramic tiles.
The flooring can also be cleaned mechanically, with a cleaning machine fitted with rotating brushes made of plastic bristles (since metal ones might damage the flooring), or by hand with a brush and warm water. A pressure washer can be used to clean away tougher dirt and remains.
