Renewal of ISO 50001 Certificate – Energy Efficiency
ISO 50001 certification is an international standard aimed at establishing, implementing and ensuring an Energy Management System (EMS) within an organisation. In 2023, we obtained ISO 50001 certification for the first time for the energy management system at GRES ARAGÓN’s plants in Alcañiz. In June 2026, the certification was renewed, extending its scope to the Faveker plant in Alcorisa. With this certification, we remain committed to an efficient energy management system, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and, consequently, our environmental impact.
For more than two decades, GRES ARAGÓN has continued making investments to replace the main natural gas-consuming thermal equipment, which are dryers and furnaces. These investments have achieved enhanced energy efficiency in our processes.
In addition to major investments in new production lines, GRES ARAGÓN has, in recent years, been carrying out investments and improvement measures aimed at energy efficiency, including the following:
- Installation of two photovoltaic generation systems for self-consumption, with a total installed capacity of 1,212 kWp across two production plants.
- Replacement of furnace nozzles, enabling an increase in combustion air temperature whilst reducing gas consumption.
- Replacement of the diesel vehicle fleet with electric vehicles: electric vans, forklift trucks and LGVs (in-plant handling vehicles).
- Replacement of the compressor to reduce electricity consumption.
- Replacement of combustion-based systems with electric systems for domestic hot water.
- Conversion of lighting – both indoor plant lighting and outdoor lighting – to LED technology.
- Replacement of low-efficiency motors with more efficient ones in high-consumption motors.
- Energy audits at our plants.
At GRES ARAGÓN, production processes are analysed and products are designed to optimise variables that enable a reduction in the consumption of raw materials and energy, without compromising product quality. We are participating in the Metawave project to improve the efficiency of industrial heating processes using microwaves.
